Returning To Work After Maternity Leave

Today was my first day back at work since going on maternity leave last April and I actually feel good about it!

I know, it was only the first day and the novelty of not having to make up bottles, change nappies and do housework will probably wear off and become replaced with hard work and missing Sorsha, but I don’t mind. I know I’m doing it for the right reasons.

My main reason for returning to work is to benefit my family. Having just moved house we have bills to pay off and want to be in a much more comfortable financial position before baby #2 comes along in July.

Going back to work also means putting Sorsha in a nursery a couple of days a week which will be great for her social skills and prepare her for life with a sibling (and stop me being so clingy)! She recently had a half day there to ease her in and she got on really well. I’ll admit it probably upset me more than her to be apart and I missed that little poopants!

It also helps that my employers have been great and we’ve worked out a schedule and role that suits everyone. I have an hour and a half commute to work and the same to get home every day which will probably be the worst part as it means early starts, but it’s only for 3-4 months until my maternity leave starts so I’m sure I can remain sane until then! As long as I have snacks and a radio I’ll cope!

So, off to bed I go, need all the sleep I can get before my 5am alarm!
