As a family we don’t eat out often, but when we do we look for delicious, locally sourced, seasonal food at a reasonable price in a nice atmosphere. We still have lots of restaurants and cafes to try, but here are our favourites so far.

A firm favourite, The Drover’s Inn never fails. We usually eat in the bar which is cosy and quiet with a great selection of drinks, and the open fire and rustic decor are very welcoming. The food is always delicious and it’s a great place for lunch with the family or date night without the kids.
Situated in the middle of an old bowling green, this small but quirky cafe is great for breakfast, lunch or a cuppa and cake. They also do amazing picnic baskets to take away, perfect for a sunny day out at Montrose beach.

We went here for the first time last weekend and loved it. This time we were in the restaurant in a larger family group and the variety and quality of the food was impressive. They also have a playpark to keep the kids amused while you enjoy a relaxing drink on the outdoor seating.
Here you’ll find delicious, big platefuls of food from around the world. An Aussie-themed restaurant with plenty of seating and good parking, it’s a great place to take the family and has a big selection of food to keep everyone happy.
After a day in the hills there’s nothing better than heading to the Climber’s Bar in the Glen Clova Hotel for a proper plateful of delicious filling food. The bar and their Bothy are both dog friendly, cosy, relaxed spaces, but if you’re looking for something a little more formal their restaurant is perfect for a nice lunch or evening meal.
What do you think of our choices? Do you have a favourite place to eat which we should try out?
